DCIC Updates General Membership Meeting Mark your calendars! Our next general membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 12pm to 1:30pm. Watch your email in the coming weeks for the agenda. Board Updates Tess Ellens will be stepping down from her position at Public Health of Madison and Dane County. We are sorry to see Tess go and we wish her the best of luck! Gwen Long has retired from Group Health Cooperative, but will stay on the Dane County Immunization Board as a community member. Congratulations to Gwen! Immunization Updates New Pneumococcal Vaccination Recommendations The CDC has updated their website with the new pneumococcal vaccination recommendations, including a Summary of Who and When to Vaccinate. The California Department of Public Health has this Pneumococcal Vaccine Timing chart that is easy to read, and Immunize.org has updated their Ask the Experts page. Annual Symposium The Dane County Immunization Coalition vaccinators statewide to attend the annual Spring Symposium on April 26, 2022. This is a virtual event and will be held from 6pm until 8:15pm. The event will feature an immunization update by the chief strategy officer at Immunize.org (formerly the Immunization Action Coalition) and a presentation from a professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health called “Fears, Facts, and Feelings: How Public Health can Understand and Address COVID-19 Misinformation.” This event is free and is intended for health care staff who administer vaccines or facilitate the administration of immunizations: nurses, medical assistants, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, public health staff, and school nurses. Free CE will be available for nurses, medical assistants, and pharmacists.Click here to register. Health Equity Wisconsin DHS Forums on Advancing Health Equity The Wisconsin Department of Health Services COVID-19 Response and Recovery Team is hosting forums on advancing health equity during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sessions are held on Fridays from noon to 1 p.m. and are open to anyone across Wisconsin. They will feature a community leader sharing experiences, barriers, practices and lessons learned for advancing health equity. The April forums will spotlight the work being done to advance health equity in marginalized populations. Click here to register. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has some tips for talking with patients, friends, and family members about the importance of getting vaccinated. COVID.govThe U.S. government launched COVID.gov, a consolidated website to help people in the United States gain easier access to vaccines, tests, treatments, and masks, as well as updates on COVID-19 incidence in their area. Addressing Parents’ Questions About Childhood Vaccines The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has videos that help answer questions parents may have about vaccines for their children as well as tips for finding accurate information about vaccines online. In the Media Promoting Vaccines in American Indian and Alaska Native Communities CDC recently released new public service announcements featuring Oscar award recipient Wes Studi that emphasize the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters in American Indian and Alaska Native communities to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and prevent severe illness and death. Twin Cities Public Television and the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council, Inc have a series of videos called Vaccines in Indian Country showing that vaccines are safe, effective and one of the easiest ways to protect families and the community from deadly diseases.
