Immunization Updates COVID Vaccines Now Approved for Patients 6 Months Through 4 Years Old Both Moderna and Pfizer have new formulations for this youngest age group. Check the CDC website for the most up-to-date information regarding dosages, timing, formulations, and more. New MMR Vaccine Approved Priorix is a new vaccine indicated for the prevention of measles, mumps, and rubella in individuals 12 months of age and older. It is a live, attenuated vaccine and is administered subcutaneously. PCV15 Approved for Use in Children ACIP says that PCV15 may be used as an option to PCV13 for children 6 weeks through 18 years according to currently recommended PCV13 dosing and schedules. Annual Symposium The Dane County Immunization Coalition’s annual Spring Symposium was held virtually on April 26, 2022. The event featured an immunization update by L. J. Tan, the chief strategy officer at Immunize.org (formerly the Immunization Action Coalition) and a presentation from Meghan Moran, professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health called “Fears, Facts, and Feelings: How Public Health can Understand and Address COVID-19 Misinformation.” A recording of the event along with the slides are available here. Health Equity Black Maternal Health For Your Health News, hosted by National Minority Quality Forum, is aimed at providing information and tools to individuals who identify as Black, indigenous, or people of color and connecting them with community-based organizations and federally qualified health clinics. Vaccinate Your Family shares a new animated video on how vaccines work and a fotonovela, both available in English and Spanish Vaccinate Your Family (VYF) offers a new video clip that explains how vaccines work. The video is available in English and in Spanish. They also created a fotonovela answering common questions and concerns about vaccines during pregnancy. The fotonovela can be accessed in both English and Spanish. Promoting Immunization Meningococcal Vaccination Algorithm Available The Meningitis B Action Project has a new resource for healthcare providers. This reference guide uses current ACIP recommendations in an algorithm to facilitate meningococcal vaccination. Their Best ShotVaccinate Your Family is pleased to launch “Their Best Shot” – a community campaign aimed to raise awareness of missed childhood vaccinations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The website offers parents an overview of why vaccines are important and how they can get their children up to date on their vaccines this summer. Vaccine Communication Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (CHOP) Vaccine Education Center released Communicating about Vaccines – COVID-19 and More, a free, web-based interactive session with CE available. In the Media With Kindness and Respect A vaccine champion details her approach to vaccine conversations with an example, shares the motivation for her deep commitment to vaccines, discusses the important role for nurses in vaccine advocacy, and describes the CASE model approach to vaccine conversations in a piece called “With Kindness and Respect, We Can Help Others Choose to Be Vaccinated.” The Anti-Vaccine Movement’s New Frontier An article in the New York Times Magazine talks about parents who have been radicalized by Covid-era misinformation to reject ordinary childhood immunizations. |
