DCIC Joins Annual Back 2 School Free Haircutz Event
Local barbers and health care coalition team up to boost student confidence and health before school beings.
In a unique partnership, the Dane County Immunization Coalition (DCIC) and SSM Health joined forces with local barbers to provide free vaccines alongside complimentary haircuts during Madison’s 15th Annual Back 2 School Free Haircutz Event.
The event, held at the Alliant Energy Center, featured over 30 local barbers offering free haircuts to boost students’ confidence. Meanwhile, the DCIC set up a walk-in vaccine clinic to ensure children were up-to-date on required immunizations. DCIC Chair Ryan Bender emphasized the importance of vaccines for school readiness and overall health. As an added incentive, vaccinated children received vouchers for free shoes from Fleet Feet. This creative approach to community health outreach demonstrates Madison’s commitment to supporting students’ well-being as they head back to school.
